| "Slowly but surely the darkness is eating me from within, destroying the small glimmers of light struggling to survive." Every day when i wake up, i feel like a little more of myself is engulf in this darkness while i'm slowly but certainly losing my desire to struggle for hope... . . . | Another friday afternoon, spending time in a lecture theatre trying hard to stay awake. Well it is easier staying awake when i'm not actually listening to the lecture but focusing on my laptop acting like i'm listening. Don't ask me why i even bother going to lectures when i spend most my time there sleeping, or day dreaming, or writing blog entries, or anything but actually listening in the lecture. Its been a habit of mine since i've started studying in this university. In the past 4 years of university, Who knows how many hours i've spent sleeping in lectures (I'm pretty famous for that actually, almost all my lecturers at one point have told me off for sleeping during their class) Who knows how many hours i've spent day dreaming in lectures. Who knows how much time i've spent doodling in lectures (if you have seen my lecture notes u'll see alot of doodles and other stuff i prefer not to mention now), Who knows how many times i actually started snoring in lectures (imagine the shocked faces of my classmates around me when i do that) Who knows how many times my body jerked when i was snoozing in my lectures (from what i've read in articles, its actually a response my brain does to wake the body up) Who knows how many hours i've actually spent trying to listen but failed miserably, Who knows how little hours i'm actually listening. However regardless of my poor study methods I have never disrupted other people during lectures (except for the snoring) I have never failed to submit my assignments on time (not even once) I have never failed an examination (2 close calls due to certain reasons) I have maintained a very decent GPA, I have survived countless situations that could turn out disasterous for my academic career and some times my own personal ell being. I have improved my management skills dramatically. I've lost my touch in my social skills dramatically. I've grown mentally I've lost my happy go lucky attitude. I've lost alot of confidence in my personal being I've experienced another part of the world personally. I've learned that I was wrong to think that the most important thing is to develope my mind rather that improving my looks (its the balance of both that is beneficial) I've learnt that I indeed am a person with a lot of patience. I've learnt that my lack of competitiveness has costs me alot of opportunities. I've learnt that I am a very stubborn person that never gives up until the last moment. I've learnt that I am not a perfectionist but I am also not a person that will accept mediorce work. I've learnt that I am not very forgiving and I never forget when a person mistreats me. I've learnt that I am a nice person (which is why people tend to try to take advantage of me) I've learnt that I am not born smart like alot of people assumed, in fact i learn at a much slower rate compared to alot of people. I've learnt that I am indeed very boring.... Well all these will be in the past very soon as my four years in University is finally coming to an end. I will unofficially be a university graduate in 5 weeks time (Graduation ceremony is in April next year unfortunately) This past four years (this year especially) in university isn't a very pleasant experience however right now i am torn between being relieved that it is coming to an end or worried starting my next journey as a graduate. . . . | | |
| Day 3 Well the day started out as any other day in brisbane, The skies were clear and no sign of the dust storm anywhere. After a little bit of preparations, we made our way to the university again. Had some really nice sushi rolls for breakfast and it was really cheap. Bought them at a sushi station called Sushi R (or R Sushi). Shitake Mushroom sushi yum yum. Got to the university at 10, worked through the day although not very productively since we haven't had much to do but help out with the preparations. After working the whole day, we went back to the city. We spent the entire evening looking for food at the Queens street Mall and boy can you imagine how dissapointed we were after an hour or so. Well on the other hand, we got to see Brisbane on a weekend and just like adelaide, it was busy and there were people everywhere. No offense to adelaideans but brisbane caucasian girls are far prettier than adelaideans with better sense of fashion (either that or they just have more choices in fashion compared to adelaide) In the end we settle in this restaurent in the middle of the mall called Jimmy in the mall. Ordered the steak there. Waited for about an hour before we got it. Damn the service was slow (cause they forgot our order) well good thing was they did apologize for it and got us free deserts and the steaks were great (at least i thought so) my colleague wasn't very pleased as his came overcooked on top of the lateness. As we sat there observing brisbane friday night lifestyle i realized that it's pretty much the same hustle and bustle that we get in Adelaide. Not very happening and not completely boring. I dont see much clubbers around (probably cause it's about 9pm ) and everyone seemed to be getting out of the city which probably means most people stay outside the city and that all the night life is probably in the surburbs. After dinner we went to explore the area a little bit more and found this nice korean shop somewhere near the city museum which sold lots of interesting korean food. Only managed to get an icecream before realizing the dust storm was back. So we got back to the hotel to avoid it .... (To be continued) . . . | Ah my second official day in Brisbane, The skies has cleared, the dust storm is gone, the air was clean again (at least as clean as it was before the storm) Woke up early to jump into the hotel pool, was rather annoyed after jumping into it, the pool was covered with dust and sand, and it was freezing cold. worst of all i saw a bunch of cigarette butts on the bottom of the pool, well needless to say, my first instinct was to get out of there, but then i told myself to just swim on, forcing myself to overcome instinct is becoming more and more common for me, a habit i shouldn't have, after the swim i went on working on my assignment and made my way into Queens street mall for breakfast, had some nice curry for breakfast, as usual i wished i could have the stuff i normally have for breakfast in Malaysia. After finishing breakfast, my teammate and I made our way into the university to complete our OHS induction, then we could finally start working on our project. or at least that was what i thought initially, little did i know that we were going to have so much complications, day after day we worked on it, wondering when we could finally start the testing, before we knew it, the day was over we did some more exploring on the UQ's park, needless to say it was beautiful, and filled with life, I saw a whole lot of turtles in the pond, ducks, swans, geese, and a humongous fish that looks like a cross between a pike and a catfish. by far the largest fish I've seen in a lake, after that we went back to the city and explored the city a little bit more, pass through the Roma Street Park, it was kind of beautiful, however as time was running short and the skies was getting dark, we didn't get to explore too much of it. After putting my stuff back in the hotel, we went off exploring brunswick st and chinatown a little bit more, got a chance to see the roofless bar near brunswick mall, (couldn't find the bar's name as they did not post it up) it was beautiful (didn't get to snap any photos on the inside as my camera ran out of power at the wrong time) had dinner at a japanese buffet restaurant that night, the food there was amazingly good, the raw beef mix was superb, and i guess we shocked the waitress as we ordered 16 orders of ox tongue in addition to a ton of food, a funny thing we noticed about the waitress when she showed us her shocked face, she was wearing a tag that says " I like to watch people" it was a rather interesting phrase, and needless to say we all came up with our own conclusion in the matter. After the amazing dinner, we made our way back into the city and explored it a little bit more, and manage to get back to the hotel to work on our assignments again. (to be continued...) . . .

| Now, Brisbane is by far the largest city i've been to in Australia, the city is build around a huge river which is rather interesting, as it reminded me about something a teacher told me a very very long time ago, that early settlers generally build their homes around water sources. (note most other major Australian cities are near large water sources as well) Another thing is that in Brisbane, the ratio of Asians and Caucasians are more balanced compare to the other cities i've been to.
On my first day here, after Queens street mall and exploring the Victoria bridge, i went to the University of Queensland to meet my supervisor for my project. It was a relatively short ride with nothing special to see on the way. When i finally arrived at UQ, i was overwhelmed. The university was superbly large, and amazingly beautiful i didn't get to explore it much until later that day as i needed to work. We started checking out the Drummond Tunnel that we are utilizing for our final year project, unfortunately we spent a couple hours trying to find parts and getting our model fixed since we made a minor mistake on the drawings well fixing the model was quick and swift, but the price of it was kinda overwhelming, as the workshop personnel fixing our model was the Occupational, Health and Safety officer, we were forced to undergo a safety induction (not my first one but still as boring as i remembered it) took the rest of the day to read safety rules and regulations and had to take tests which is required to be able to work in the workshops. After finishing most of the OHS procedures, i finally got a chance to visit the university, and boy was the university, amazingly large, not only is it large, it is beautiful, the lecture theaters were rather different from the ones i normally sleep in theirs was way more comfortable, and more spacious in comparison. there's a park in the university boundaries and a turkey in the campus seriously, a freaking turkey walking around like it owns the place.
After UQ, we went to china town in fortitude valley, and boy am i disappointed when i arrived in china town, not only was it under renovation which makes it unworthy of picture moments, it was kind of dead. and boy did it seem dead, it is by far the emptiest china town I've been to in Australia.(it was only 7 ish) walked around a little but still not much people around we finally settled in a chinese restaurant that served tasty food, but still not amazingly special. After china town was a walk in the city, grabbing pictures here and there got some pics on Anzac square, on all the central train station, the pictures on the floor on king George's park then finally settle back into our hotel room trying to finish our assignments which was due several days ago. (to be continued). . . . . "Even when soiled with dirt, we must continue to struggle and move on without giving up"
